WinRAR 3.51 archiver

According to the publisher's description, WinRAR archiver is a general purpose archiving and compression program competing with/replacing programs such as PKZip, ARJ, and others. It offers significantly improved compression ratios, easier use and a cheaper price as well as supporting long file names, disk spanning, and self-extracting file creation.

One can also try RAR for Mac OS X, Linux, or FreeBSD. Latest Changes:

* Fixed two vulnerabilities, which could be exploited with specially crafted ACE and UUE/XXE archives
* Fixed: Previous version did not delete some of temporary files
* Fixed: WinRAR could crash when processing very long (more than 1024 characters) archive name parameter in the command line

Here's what one reviewer posted:

"I do agree that WinRAR is the best archiver ever, offers the best compression ratio, and has the best spanning method ever, I simply cannot agree with the fact that a program like this can possibly be freeware because programs like this need research, a lot of it, which consequently requires a lot of money, think of the hundreds of employees that worked on this project, programmers, testers, etc. I mean you're not paying hundreds of dollars on this program anyways, if you're too poor to buy a license get a crack! Cracks can get you any shareware program for free, just be careful not to have cops around etc. and don't use the program's customer support if you have a cracked version, and don't go yapping at work that you have cracked WinRAR, one word to the cops and you're busted. Just be a little careful and you can have any program as freeware".

Another reviewer's response to it.

"I really can't stand the kind of nonsense vomited forth by the last posting. You defend the notion that software costs money to develop, then advice stealing it, and babble on a bunch of gibbering nonsense about the dangers of using cracks. The main reason you shouldn't use cracks is that it's wrong. I know, I know - this is a foreign idea to a lot of people, especially those brought up after the Death of Parenting. Another good reason to avoid cracks is that many of them contain mail ware. These days, Trojans are very common. And no, your crappy little freeware anti-virus application won't catch all of them, or even most of them. The threat of being caught is the last reason to avoid using cracks, but it's still a good one. Just doesn't be an idiot, OK? WinRAR... Still the most-reliable and non-frustrating archiver I've used. It just works".
