New Virginia Lottery game offers the prize of a lifetime if you win
Top prize winners in the Virginia Lottery's newest multi-state game Win For Life will receive just that: $1,000 per week for the rest of their lives. Would you like to know that every week for the rest of your life you can rely on a steady stream of income?
"We wanted to find a game that could match Mega Millions for excitement, but also offer better odds of winning", said Interim Executive Director Donna M. VanCleave. "We think players will really enjoy a chance to win $1,000 per week for the rest of their lives".
Win For Life replaces Lotto south, which the Lottery is retiring after a successful four and half year run. As with Lotto South, Virginia is partnering with Kentucky and Georgia in this new game. This three-state partnership allows the lotteries to fund the attractive for life prize.
Players in the Win For Life game try to match six numbers correctly, from 1 to 42. They can select their own numbers or allow the computer to randomly select six numbers. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 5.2 million. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 21. Those other prizes range from $2 to $52,000. Drawings are held Wednesday and Saturday nights.
If this sounds familiar, there's a twist: the Free Ball. The Free Ball is a seventh number that is drawn from the remaining numbers after the first six are drawn. It helps determine the amount of lower-level prizes. Here is a rundown of all Win For Life prizes.
* Match 6 of the first 6 numbers to win $1,000 per week for life.
* Match 5 of the first 6 plus the Free Ball to win $52,000.
* Match 5 of the first 6 to win $600.
* Match 4 of the first 6 plus the Free Ball to win $200.
* Match 4 of the first 6 to win $30.
* Match 3 of the first 6 plus the Free Ball to win $30.
* Match 3 of the first 6 to win $2.
* Match 2 of the first 6 plus the Free Ball to win $2.
Win For Life tickets go on sale at most Virginia Lottery retailers, February 26 with the first drawing held on Wednesday, March 1. Tickets for advance play can be purchased February 12. Win For Life joins the Virginia Lottery's successful portfolio of products that includes Mega Millions, Cash 5, Pick 4, Pick 3 and Scratches.
All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. In fiscal year 2005, the Lottery turned over more than $423 million for education.
