Spyware remover gets rid of WinFixer

As we all know, pop ups can be a real nuisance, one of these are WinFixer pop ups.

Question: Please help me eliminate the WinFixer popup. It gets by Windows XP blocks, Google toolbar popup blocker, etc.

Answer: WinFixer is an annoying spyware that produces pop ups. You might have received it, when you downloaded "free" versions of software. Sometimes, you can go to add/remove programs and uninstall the software. But you probably need to install a spyware remover to really get rid of it.

Make sure you are up-to-date with all Microsoft updates and anti-virus updates. Also, purchasing a popup blocker wouldn't be a bad idea. You may already have one with your anti-virus program.

Question: It seems you have addressed this issue before, but I had to take my computer in for repairs. When I got it back, I had to download AOL Instant Messenger again. I am wondering how to set the computer so AIM doesn't start every time I log on.

Answer: Go to General Preferences within AIM, there is an option to enable/disable Start AIM when Windows starts. In fact, most instant messengers have the option to turn off at startup. It should be located somewhere in options or preferences.
