Virginia Beach Woman Wins Some Extreme Cash
When Irene Jordan of Virginia Beach arrived at work recently, she had something in her hand that all of her coworkers wanted to see: a Virginia Lottery scratch ticket worth $100,000.
I had to have everybody at work look at the ticket to make sure; she told Virginia Lottery officials truth when she claimed her prize.
It happened after she stopped at the 7-Eleven at 3185 Holland Road in Virginia Beach as she was on her way to work. While she was there, she bought a ticket for the Virginia Lottery scratch game 'Extreme Cash'. Then she took the ticket in to her workplace to scratch it.
"I couldn't believe it", she said. "It was unreal. I thought there was a mistake".
Ms. Jordan, who works as a bookkeeper at her son-in-law's business, said the winnings will come in handy with her retirement. But I'm not retiring today, she quickly added.
Extreme Cash is one of more than 50 scratch games offered by the Virginia Lottery. Players can win up to 16 times on each ticket. Prizes range from $5 all the way up to $100,000.
Ms. Jordan is the third player to win the top prize of $100,000 in the game, so that means there is still one top prize winning ticket out there waiting to be scratched.
All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In fiscal year 2005, the Lottery turned over more than $423 million for education.
