Couple recall crash on Las Vegas Strip

Aidan Nolan and his wife were on the last leg of their honeymoon, holding hands as they walked down the Las Vegas Strip.

Married for less than three weeks, the young couple from Ireland looked forward to spending a few days shopping and seeing shows after visiting San Francisco, Hawaii and Los Angeles. The burgundy Buick, hurtling toward them and dozens of other tourists, changed everything.

"People were going left, right and center", Nolan said from his hospital bed. "No one stood a chance".

Two people were killed and 12 injured when the stolen car drove onto a crowded sidewalk Wednesday evening in front of Bally's hotel-casino.

The driver, Stephen Michael Ressa, 27, of Rialto, Calif., was arrested and will face charges of murder and attempted murder because authorities believe he deliberately drove into the crowd.

Nolan's wife, 24-year-old Rachel Burke, suffered fractures to both legs. Nolan, 30, has a dislocated right shoulder, broken bones in his left arm and a fractured knee.

"Without a doubt, it makes you appreciate what you have", Nolan said, as he looked at his wife sitting beside his bed. Burke smiled behind her tears.

Nolan has surgery scheduled for Monday. He and Burke expect to be in the hospital for a few weeks before returning home.

The two were adamant that one day they will visit Las Vegas again.

"I do think it could happen anywhere, even at home in Dublin", Burke said.

"We're going to remember the good times", Nolan said.
