Baseball Betting
Betting baseball is one of the best ways to make money since it is one of the easiest sports to handicap. Many sportsbooks (both online and Las Vegas) will tell you that during baseball they are happy to simply break even. It's surprising that more people aren't betting baseball even though there is such great value and money making opportunities available.
If you are new to betting baseball, one of the first thing that you will notice that there are no point spreads involved. Betting baseball involves odds that are represented as Money Line.
Money Lines are odds expressed in terms of a dollar so if you bet a Favorite, you will lay more than a dollar in order to win a dollar and if you bet an underdog, you will bet a dollar to win more than a dollar. Baseball betting lines are expressed as a dollar with cents and sometimes the decimal will be used. Odds of -1.45 and -145 are the same thing.
A favorite that is -145 means that you have to bet 145 to win 100. On the opposite side if one were to bet an underdog at +14.
You would only have to bet 100 to win 145. So simply put the favorite as always a minus and the underdog will always be a plus.
Baseball Money Line
Not all baseball lines are created equal. Some baseball bettors will only play a "true Dime Line" or a 10-cent line. With a true dime baseball line, a Favorite, (Example - New York Yankees -165) would be paired with the underdog, (Example - Oakland +155).
Most sportsbooks, however, will limit their exposure or risk on the previous example and make the underdog (in this example Oakland), only +145. As you can imagine, over the course of the season these small differences can add up to hundreds or thousands of dollars depending on how much you play.
The reason numerous sportsbooks post a 20-cent line is they KNOW that sharp players will take them for money in baseball, and it minimizes the profits of those players, and maximizes the losses for the books. Once again proving that baseball is easy to win at, if you know what to look for. If you are playing the NBA Playoffs until they end, and then think about playing baseball, even a $200 player has lost thousands in profits by that time by passing on baseball.
This is why finding the best baseball lines are so important. Remember, in sports betting what you save is what you earn, so use a sportsbook that has a true dime line and you will be getting the best value for your baseball bets. Ten cents on the dollar can easily add up to hundreds or thousands of dollars over the course of a baseball season. If you are serious about winning, it is imperative you research the sports books and their lines. Some offshore sportsbooks offer 10 cent lines (dime lines) up to a certain number, say 150, then they go to a 15 cent or 20 cent line from there.
MLB Total
Baseball totals are fairly straightforward like football or basketball. The total refers to the number of runs both teams score for the entire game. This also includes extra innings if the game goes past 9 innings. Both listed pitchers must start for a total bet to have action. If one, or both, of the listed pitchers do not start, then a bet on the game total has no action, and all bets are refunded.
